Frequently Asked Questions
Q. I have 500 pages on my
website. If I want to RSS my whole site what is the best strategy for
doing this? I can see how to RSS 10 pages but how can I RSS 500 ?
A. The suggestion of RSS'ing 10 pages on your
site at a time found in our article on "RSS
Marketing Is Hot!", follows the fact that so many
readers and
RSS publishers tend to only
show 10 headlines in the feed display (if that...some display less than
10).
If you choose to go with more than 10 headlines, then news
wires and RSS services that spider feeds will serve up whatever is in a
feed no matter how many headlines and it is possible that any of the
headlines will be picked up in searches for news....they simply will not
be displayed on most feed
aggregator systems in the top most headlines for your website.
In other words, listing more than 10 headlines in your
feed means that the other headlines are likely to be missed by readers -
both humans skimming headlines and digital readers displaying headlines.
Since, the whole idea of an RSS feed is that the content of the feed (i.e.
the headlines) changes then RSS'ing only 10 pages at a time is smart. This
just means that large websites have the opportunity to have their pages
RSS'd over a longer period of time...which is a good thing!
Q. Is there a quick and easy way to submit my RSS feed to all the
major RSS directories?
A. Yes, our very own new quick and
dirty RSS submission sofware
submits to all the major RSS directories!
